Privacy Policy

SpaceLens is designed from the ground up to protect your privacy. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is used, and the explicit guarantees we make to you.

No INTERNET permission — SpaceLens transmits no user data and makes no network calls. External links (e.g. this policy) open in your device's browser.

1. Who We Are

SpaceLens is an independent Android application developed and published by SpaceLens. For any questions regarding this Privacy Policy, please contact us at asbyyy@proton.me.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

No data collection, ever

SpaceLens does not collect, transmit, store remotely, or share any personal data, file content, usage statistics, identifiers, or analytics of any kind. There are no third-party SDKs, no analytics libraries, no crash reporters, and no ad networks in the app.

Specifically, SpaceLens does not:

Upload any files, file names, paths, or metadata to any server
Transmit your device identifier, advertising ID, or any hardware fingerprint
Log, report, or share app-usage events or session data
Require or request an account, sign-in, or email address
Display ads or communicate with ad networks
Send push notifications via remote servers
Use Firebase, Google Analytics, Crashlytics, or any equivalent service

3. What the App Accesses On-Device

SpaceLens reads certain data locally on your device solely to provide its core functionality. This data never leaves your device.

You can view the current permission status at any time in Settings → Permission Audit inside the app, or in your device's System Settings → Apps → SpaceLens → Permissions.

4. Local Data Storage

SpaceLens stores the following data locally in the app's private storage (not accessible to other apps):

Scan database — file paths, sizes, categories, priority scores, and content hashes used for duplicate detection. Stored in a Room (SQLite) database.
Recycle Bin — files you have moved to the Recycle Bin are kept in app-private storage for the retention period you configure (7 / 14 / 30 days, or disabled).
Preferences — theme mode, recycle-bin retention setting, notification threshold, and whether you have completed onboarding. Stored in Jetpack DataStore.

All of this data is deleted permanently when you uninstall SpaceLens. There is no cloud backup; uninstalling is the complete data-deletion mechanism.

5. Third-Party Services

SpaceLens uses no third-party services, SDKs, or libraries that collect or transmit data. The complete list of runtime dependencies:

Jetpack libraries (Room, WorkManager, DataStore, Compose, Navigation) — Android framework; no data transmission
Hilt (Google) — dependency injection; compile-time only, no runtime network calls
Coil — loads app icons from the local package manager; no network calls for this use case
Timber — debug logging to logcat only; disabled in release builds
AndroidX Browser — launches the device's system browser for external links (e.g. this policy page); the app itself makes no network calls

The app has no INTERNET permission in its manifest. This is verified as a build-time gate on every release (F24 Privacy Audit, 2026-06-23).

6. Children's Privacy

SpaceLens is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any information from children. The app contains no content inappropriate for any age group (rated Everyone on Google Play).

7. Security

Because SpaceLens never transmits data, there is no network attack surface. Data at rest (the scan database and recycle bin) resides in Android's app-private directory, protected by Android's sandboxing model. On devices with encryption enabled (the default since Android 6.0), this data is encrypted at rest by the OS.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this page. Since SpaceLens collects no data, there is no practical scenario where a change to this policy would affect your privacy retroactively. We will not introduce data collection without publishing an updated policy and releasing a new app version.

Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms & Conditions carefully before using SpaceLens. By installing or using the app you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please uninstall the app.

1. Acceptance of Terms

These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the SpaceLens Android application ("App," "we," "us," or "our"). By downloading, installing, or using the App, you ("User," "you") accept these Terms in full.

2. License to Use

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable, royalty-free license to use SpaceLens on Android devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial storage management purposes.

You may not:

Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App (except where permitted by applicable law)
Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works of the App
Redistribute, sublicense, sell, rent, or lease the App or any part of it
Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations
Remove, obscure, or alter any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices

3. The App Is a Tool — You Are Responsible for Your Files

Important: File deletion is permanent outside the Recycle Bin

SpaceLens helps you identify and delete files on your device. While the App provides a Recycle Bin and undo functionality, files permanently deleted from the Recycle Bin cannot be recovered by SpaceLens. Always review what you are deleting before confirming permanent deletion.

You acknowledge and agree that:

You are solely responsible for deciding which files to delete
You should maintain independent backups of important data before using any cleanup feature
The App's recommendations (Smart Clean, Duplicates, etc.) are suggestions — the final decision is always yours
The App cannot recover files deleted outside the Recycle Bin or after the configured retention period expires

4. Permissions and Access

SpaceLens requests only the Android permissions necessary for its stated features (detailed in the Privacy Policy). You may deny any permission; the corresponding feature will be unavailable but the rest of the App will continue to function. Granting a permission authorises the App to access that data locally on your device only.

5. No Warranties

SpaceLens is provided "as is" and "as available" without any warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, reliability, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that:

The App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or free of bugs
Scan results will be complete or perfectly accurate across all device configurations
The App will be compatible with every Android device, ROM, or future OS version
Any specific amount of storage will be freed

6. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of, or inability to use, SpaceLens — including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, device damage, or any other intangible losses — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or limitation of liability, our liability shall be limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.

7. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SpaceLens and its developers from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your use of the App or your violation of these Terms.

8. Third-Party Content

The App may display the names, icons, and metadata of apps installed on your device. These are retrieved locally from Android's package manager. We claim no ownership of third-party app names, icons, or trademarks. All such marks remain the property of their respective owners.

The App does not contain links to third-party websites except where you initiate them (e.g., tapping "Rate SpaceLens" opens Google Play; tapping "Privacy Policy" opens this page). We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of external sites.

9. Availability and Updates

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue SpaceLens (or any part of it) at any time without notice. We may release updates via Google Play that change features or behaviour; continued use after an update constitutes acceptance of any changes. We are not obligated to provide updates, maintenance, or support.

10. Governing Law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which the developer resides, without regard to its conflict-of-law provisions. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts in that jurisdiction.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. If we make material changes, we will update the Effective Date at the top of this document and, where practicable, notify users via an in-app notice. Your continued use of SpaceLens after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
